Virginia Legends Walk

Educational

In fall 1999, Virginia Legends Walk sent 24 famous Virginians "back to school." Not for remediation, of course, but as the highlight of a statewide educational program for elementary schoolchildren focusing on Virginia's impact on our nation's history.

Since then, another eight men and women who made significant contributions to their nation and the world have been enshrined in Virginia Legends Walk.

An educational program has been in place since the inception of VLW. It provides free "baseball-style" cards, featuring all 32 inductees into Virginia Legends Walk, to every fourth- or fifth-grade student in Virginia Beach, and for all other elementary schools that request them.

Upon introduction of these cards, Mayor Meyera Oberndorf told children, "As you look at these Virginia Legends, we want to challenge you to become the Virginia Legends of the future."

The card sets are updated annually and available to teachers by e-mailing sean@brickellpr.com.
